Q: I have 30 pounds to lose, should I prioritize cardio?
The answer may surprise you!
A common misconception among those looking to lose weight is that you need to do a ton of cardio in order to lose fat, and then lift weights in order to get toned.
This is backwards.
In fact, cardio really isn’t a great weight loss tool.
Why?
Because the body adjusts to cardio very quickly. You wind up having to do more and more and more in order to continue seeing results.
The more cardio you do, the higher your stress levels become which causes more hunger and more cravings (which most people give in to) therefore prompting more cardio to combat perceived overeating thus starting the vicious cycle over again.
If you truly want to ‘lose weight and get toned’ you’ve got to strength train. Lifting weight is what will boost your metabolism (the thing that burns calories) and build muscles (which give you the toned look you’re going for).
