Look, we’ve all set goals before.
Perhaps this year you’ve set a goal to lose weight, run a marathon, or join a special gym program or fitness challenge.
I love setting goals, and I love working toward them!! There’s definitely something great about having a vision and committing to seeing it through.
But you know what’s not so great?
Feeling like crap the entire time.
If you started out working towards your goal but now, a few weeks or months in, your body is super stressed out (often evidenced by lack of sleep, crazy cravings, inflammation, weight gain, mood swings, exhaustion, lingering soreness), then maybe what you’re doing isn’t right for you, right now.
Now, hear me out. I’m not saying you just give up on trying to get to a healthy weight or just give up on running that 5k in honor of the fundraising foundation you connected with.
What I am saying is that perhaps the way you’re going about losing weight or training for the event isn’t the right way for you. Right now.
If what you’re doing to achieve your goals is causing your body and mind more harm than good, it may be time to find a new goal, find a new approach, or maybe even set it aside altogether.
A macro coach who tells you to eat 140g protein a day and a running trainer who tells you to run 20 miles a week… they both have good intentions, but they are not living in your body.
And they don’t have to.
Ever.
So, if their advice, however sound it might be, just isn’t jiving with your body and needs, it is perfectly okay to change course.
Quitting doesn’t make you a failure.
In times like this, quitting might be the best decision you’ll ever make in your life.
Listen to your body and trust its feedback.
Always. Again, it’s worth repeating: You are not a failure if you listen to your body.
